Prof. Murray Print, PhD

Murray Print is Professor of Political Education, Sydney School of Education & Social Work, University of Sydney, Australia. He is recognized internationally as a leader in Civics and Citizenship Education. He has directed many research projects in civics and democratic education including Values, Policy and Civics Education in the Asia-Pacific Region (through Harvard University); Civics Education Assessment and Benchmarking (Australian Research Council); the Consortium Project in Civics and Citizenship Education; the IEA International Civics Study; and major ARC-funded projects on youth electoral participation, participation in democracy and civic engagement of young Australians.

Professor Print has played a key role in stimulating citizenship education internationally and has worked on projects and delivered invited keynote addresses in China, Belgium, Germany, Northern Ireland, Scotland, England, Ireland, Spain, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, and Canada. Most recently he has been working with the Center for Citizenship and Moral Education at Beijing Normal University in undertaking research on „good“ citizenship and citizenship education for the 21st century. He has worked for several years with the Thai Civic Education Centre to develop curricula and professional development for teachers in democratic citizenship in Thailand.

Professor Print was Lead Writer and Team Leader for the development of the Australian Curriculum Civics and Citizenship from its inception in 2010 to its completion in 2015. Earlier he was awarded the Centenary Medal for his contributions to civic education and the community by the Australian Government in 2003. Professor Print has been appointed to the College of Experts for the European Science Foundation and as a Distinguished Fellow, Faculty of Education, University of Auckland in 2016.

In the spring of 2025, he holds a Fellowship at the Demokratiezentrum Wien.
